English 251 (American Literature I)

This course is a survey of American literature from its beginning to the mid-nineteenth century. Emphasis is placed on representative works and writers of this period and on the literary, cultural, historical, and philosophical forces that shaped these works and that are reflected in them.

English 252 (American Literature II)

This course is a survey of American literature from the mid-nineteenth century to the present. Emphasis is placed on representative works and writers of this period and on the literary, cultural, historical, and philosophical forces that shaped these works and that are reflected in them.
