Conservation and Natural Resources: Wildlife Programs

The Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies represents North America’s fish and wildlife agencies to advance sound, science-based management and conservation of fish and wildlife and their habitats in the public interest.

The Association represents its state agency members on Capitol Hill and before the Administration to advance favorable fish and wildlife conservation policy and funding and works to ensure that all entities work collaboratively on the most important issues. The Association also provides member agencies with coordination services on cross-cutting as well as species-based programs that range from birds, fish habitat and energy development to climate change, wildlife action plans, conservation education, leadership training and international relations.

Working together, the Association’s member agencies are ensuring that North American fish and wildlife management has a clear and collective voice.

USDA recognizes that conservation by farmers, ranchers and forest owners today means thriving and sustainable agriculture for our future. Seventy percent of the nation's land is privately owned and conservation of our nation's private lands not only results in healthy soil, water, air, plants, animals and ecosystems, it also provides productive and sustainable working lands.

Alongside our grassroots efforts to advocate for clean air, clean water, and ecosystem protection, the National Wildlife Federation works to create new habitat and restore damaged areas through our wildlife gardening and tree planting programs.

The National Wildlife Federation's efforts include responding to critical habitat restoration needs after disasters, such as Hurricane Katrina, the Gulf oil disaster, and Superstorm Sandy.

To succeed as global citizens and future stewards of our planet, children and young adults should be well-versed in the underlying principles of nature and wildlife. Through educational programs focused on conservation and environmental knowledge, the National Wildlife Federation provides ways to create a lasting base of environmental literacy, stewardship, and problem-solving skills for today's youth.

The value of American wildlife spans economic, ecological, and spiritual realms. Wildlife create jobs through outdoor recreation, sustain food and water supplies, and help us develop meaningful bonds with our natural world. Unfortunately, over the last century many of our wildlife species have seriously declined due to rapid and large-scale changes to their habitats and ecosystems. We’re working to grow wildlife populations by transforming the way we approach wildlife conservation.

In 1961, African Wildlife Leadership Foundation, Inc., later African Wildlife Foundation (AWF), was established to focus on Africa’s unique conservation needs. This chronology highlights important steps in AWF’s growth and success for the past 50 years.

City Wildlife was created to address the need for wildlife rescue and rehabilitation in Washington, DC. Over the past several decades, urban development has reduced local wildlife habitat and wild animals have had to adapt to living in close proximity with people. Each year, hundreds of wild animals in DC are unintentionally harmed by people and the urban environment.

Variety is not only the spice of life, its critical to human survival. The diversity of life and all its connections make Earth different from all other planets. The air we breathe and the food we eat rely on biodiversity.

Our mission is to conserve the diversity of life on Earth, where all of life has value and can flourish- plant, animal, and human. With your help, we can retain, restore and revitalize our planet.

Alabama Wildlife magazine has been educating, informing, and entertaining Alabama Wildlife Federation members for over 20 years. A publication devoted exclusively to the conservation and wise use of our natural resources, Alabama Wildlife gets the attention of readers across the state with excellent feature writing, exceptional photography and upscale design.

Alabama Wildlife is published quarterly for AWF members. It includes articles on wildlife (game and non-game), wildlife management, land management, conservation, conservation education, and hunting and angling.

This Florida Wildlife Magazine Digital Preservation Project was developed with financial assistance provided by the: William H. Flowers, Jr. Foundation and the Fish & Wildlife Foundation of Florida, Inc. through the Conserve Wildlife Tag grant program.

The National Wildlife Federation brings nature to life in the pages of our publications, inspiring people of all ages and reading levels to develop a deeper relationship with our natural world.

Tennessee Wildlife Magazine is the official publication of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. It is published quarterly and provides our agency an excellent way to communicate with everyone interested in the great Tennessee Outdoors.

Within its pages you'll find interesting stories about all species of wildlife in our state. Deer hunters will appreciate the stories that include tips on how and where to find white-tails on lands that our agency manages. Fisherman will be amazed at the fabulous variety of fishing opportunities featured. Wildlife watchers will enjoy learning about agency restoration efforts, such as the bald eagle program.
