Library of Congress Classification: LCC Testing

This guide is about Library of Congress Classification System (LCC). LCC is what the Owen Hall Library & Learning Resource Center uses to shelve books. This will help you find where books are located.

Testing

  1. Library orientation (walking tour).
  2. Introduction to LCC.
  3. Paper tests.
  4. Practical tests.
  5. For further reference, they should be aware of the Library of Congress website, resources for librarians:

*Total training and testing is about 2-2.5 hours.

Practical Tests

  1. Shelf-read two or three random shelves.
  2. Shelf-read a deliberately disordered shelf.
  3. Collect books from study tables and add to book truck(s).
  4. Order and shelve all books trucks in the Library.
  5. Walk through the stacks and troubleshoot random problems.
