Biography

Edith Wilson was born Edith Bolling Galt on October 15, 1872, in Wytheville, Virginia. When she met President Woodrow Wilson in 1915, Edith was a wealthy, glamorous widow and a pillar of Washington society. They were married seven months later (Wilson's first wife had died the year before). Though she was never interested in politics or government, Edith stepped in to protect her husband after he suffered a stroke in 1919, mainly by keeping his condition a secret. Edith Wilson died in Washington, D.C., on December 28, 1961.
